Cost and Schedule Estimation for Project Managers and Decision Makers

Course No. D4, Period 4

In today’s cost-conscious and increasingly complex business environment, accurate project cost and schedule estimates are critical to staying competitive and optimizing organizational resources

This course helps decision makers to develop the insights and skills needed to prepare, review, approve, supervise, monitor, and use cost and schedule estimates in research, development, design, operations, marketing, and project management. Instruction provides methods for producing accurate cost estimates to avoid large cost overruns or underruns, whether the project budget is a few thousand dollars or millions of dollars.

Participants explore the advantages and disadvantages of different cost estimation methods, including top down, bottom up, and parametric, and how to deal with common problem areas, such as software development costs, maintenance costs, and manufacturing and capital investment costs. Participants also review emerging factors such as stricter environmental, safety, and governmental regulations; improved quality (ISO 9000); international cost factors; re-engineering; COTS (commercial-off-the-shelf); and outsourcing. As an educator, Dr. Remer has presented professional seminars and short courses on a diverse range of project management topics to over 12,000 professionals.
